Great Moravia

The most significant early medieval Slavic state, centered on modern Slovakia and Moravia. It witnessed the creation of the first Slavic alphabet (Glagolitic), the first Slavic literary language (Old Church Slavonic), and the first Christian church on Slovak soil in Nitra (828). Under Svatopluk I, it became the dominant power in Central Europe before Magyar invasions brought it down.
